Honda Odyssey received a complete redesign for 2011. Although not groundbreaking, the new design seems to aim to make the Odyssey a bit more fun and not so "mini-vany" if that is a word in order to get rid of the minivan stigma. Let's take a look at the specs and features of the new 2011 model.
The 2011 Honda Odyssey is available in five trims and all of them use the same engine, a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 248 hp @ 5700 rpm and 250 pound feet of torque @ 4800 rpm . The available trims are the base LX, the EX, EX-L, Touring and Touring-Elite. The LX, EX and EX-L feature a 5-speed automatic transmission while the Touring trims come equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This difference affects the fuel efficiency ratings since the Touring models have an mpg rating of 19 for city driving and 28 for highway driving, while the LX and EX models have estimated fuel efficiency ratings of 18 city/ 27 highway.
Like all minivan the Odyssey offers plenty of passenger and cargo room. They all come with a third row 60/40 split seat and can seat up to 8 passengers. The third row seats can manually be flipped and folded flat into the floor in order to increase cargo space. Additionally the second row seats can be shifted outward (about 1,5inch) and make seating more comfortable for three passengers.
Most reviewers agree that the 2011 Honda Odyssey offers great performane and handling. Some even note that it is even better that SUVs and Crossovers and compare it with premium sedans. The only drawback that some mention is the lack of manual shift mode.
One of its strong points is safety. It currently is the only minivan that has managed to score five stars (overall) in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's new and tougher crash-tests. All trims come with antilock braking system (ABS) with brake assist, traction and stability control and side/curtain airbags.
The starting MSRP for the base LX model is $28,075 and for the top of the line Touring Elite $43,525 which is quite pricey for the category but it comes with a ton of gadgetry and as we mentioned with a 6-speed automatic transmission that results in a slightly better gas mileage.
Overall, the 2011 Honda Odyssey is a solid vehicle and most reviewers and vehicle comparison sites rank it at the top of the minivan category.
